Dynamics Gp Login Fails on Workstation Not on Server

Posted Jun 05, 2018 10:23 AM

Thank you for the follow-upward posting.
I've seen silly things when users would phone call and say "my GP account is locked out" or "I can't login, my pwd is rejected, but I'm 100% sure about being correct"..  and in the end it turns out users had their CAPS lock on and didn't find, considering the LED was and so tiny on the keyboard.. (peculiarly on newer laptops).
Continue me posted on the progress..

Hello Beat,

True. This is very strange. It is currently happening to 3 users but.  Today one of the user couldn't login, and it worked when I only changed the password, not deleting and recreating the ID. I volition keep a shut watch to see if it happens again. If yes, every bit Mark suggested, we may have to  engage GP Ability Tools to investigate this issue.
Currently nosotros take some customized integrations to bring in Accounting and Billing data into GP, zip related to logins like Fastpath or any other Power Tools.
I will update you if I detect out anything on this issue. Cheers again.

Regards,
Mangala

Thanks Mangala for providing the details..

This is very puzzling and foreign, equally nosotros have been using GP since V 9.0 within a Citrix environment first, and so later on Microsoft RDS Terminal Server (for the past 3-4 years) with GP 2013 & I've tested GP 2015, 2016 & 2018 in a cloned RDS site for the past 18months and never had an issue with user authentication..

What are your 3rd party products that are integrated to GP ? any tools like FastPath or Rockton Toolbox ? GP Power Tools ?

Does this happen only to specific users or randomly to any GP account ?

Lamentable Beat, took a while for me to become the answers for the below from our Network squad.

Here is what I got;
We use RDS Remote App solution for Application commitment  - MS Remote App. Nosotros are not using the cloud based offer for workspot. We are actually hosting it at our on premise DC.  We practise not utilize Azure.

Server names do not change in our environment.

100% confirmed that the GP client always uses the exact same ODBC connection name that was used in the initial configuration and doesn't alter over the course of time – There is an RDS server exclusively for the GP environment.

These issues didn't occur for the previous version of GP (earlier GP 2016) which was hosted the exact same way that GP 2016 is hosted today.

Thanks so much actually!

Regards,
Mangala

Workspot ?
Uh Oh..  I can already run into a trouble hither.. this is a cloud based solution that allows for remote access of GP that would be stored on an Azure platform ?..
It's difficult to tell, since we don't know much about the environment and how it was setup.. Where is the GP server / databases ? how practice the users access the "Workspot"  session ? are they using a full desktop login or simply a published app login ?
The type of issue your users are facing seems related to the fact that the server names seems to change randomly and the ODBC connection doesn't stick, which would crusade randomly the password to not decrypt correctly anymore..  Based on the marketing newspaper from Workspot, information technology looks like that awarding deployment is fabricated in mode to have advantage of Azure regional servers, which can alter over time.

You want to make sure with your provider that the GP client always uses the exact same ODBC connexion name that was used in the initial configuration and doesn't change over the course of time.

Adept Morning Beat,

Thank you for the response. The upshot is in Alive surround. The users access GP through a TS environment - Workspot, and we check the box for the "enforced user policy" while defining the password on the GP side.

Cheers,
Mangala

Thanks Mangala for the reply.
This is going to exist difficult to debug when such matter happen randomly... In that location could be a lots of parameters involved, like not using the same SQL Customer version on the workstations, or the SQL server collation, or an inconsistent ODBC connectedness proper noun..
How do the user access GP ? local clients or Citrix / TS surround ?
Are you using "enforced user policy" when defining the pwd on the GP side for the users ?

Good Morn Beat,

Yes, I reset the countersign on the aforementioned system and I test information technology on the same arrangement afterward. It doesn't piece of work. When I delete the ID and recreate the aforementioned ID, it works.
It happens to some 4-five users just. This week I deleted all of their user ids and recreated them and observing if that fails as well. One of them failed today and I did the aforementioned thing - deleted and recreated!

Thanks,
Mangala

Hi Mangala,
Practise you reset the pwd on the aforementioned system where you test it later on ?
If not, could it exist that your ODBC connexion doesn't have the same instance name on the different computers ?  this is a fairly common upshot where someone setup the GP client by using a different SQL server name (i.due east. using IP Address instead of canonical proper name), and since GP uses that case name to encrypt the password in the database, the pwd does non lucifer when connecting from some other computer.
If information technology'due south on the same computer, then there is something else that plays in the game, just information technology could be an upshot with the Firewall or network.
Is information technology a single user that faces the problem or did information technology happen to several ?

Howdy There,

We take some user login issues reported this week. The users merits that they are using the correct passwords but they are not able to get into GP.

I reset their passwords and try to login equally the user myself to check if it works and strangely GP doesn't allow the login.  I got the same error even with the new reset countersign. I deleted the quondam user id and created a new one and it worked.
This is the second case this week.  Has anybody faced this upshot ?

Thanks,
Mangala
